How to Load Music Into a Blackberry 8800

So, after having five different Blackberries--I've always seemed to find my way around them pretty well. Though, for some reason the concept of getting music into the phone had eluded me. I recently figured it out and would like to share it with you. It's much easier than you think.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Blackberry 8800
  • Third party flash ram card

Step1
Purchase a flash ram card from an electronics store. I found them to be very reasonably priced at Best Buy. This card will provide memory for all media you wish to use with your Blackberry.
Step2
Flip the Blackberry over and remove the back cover. You will notice a slot above the battery. This is where you will insert the media card. Pull the tiny aluminum tab back and slide the card in. Close the tab and replace the cover.
Step3
Use the trackball to scroll over to the "Options" application and open it.

Click "Advanced Options" and choose Media Card.

Now Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, where it reads "Total Space" and press the trackball.

Choose the option "Format Card".

After it has been formatted you"ll be ready to load it up with music.
Step4
Plug the provided USB cable from your Blackberry into your computer. After a few seconds a "hard drive" will be mounted onto your desktop labeled BLACKBERRY.

You can now simply drag and drop your favorite songs into the hard drive (essentially your Blackberry's media card).
Step5
Remove the media card "hard-drive" from your computer by ejecting it.

Remove the USB cable from both the computer and the Blackberry
Step6
With your Blackberry scroll to the "Media" application and choose "Music."

Next click on the "Media Card" option.

Click on your favorite song to prompt the playback window.

Music sounds surprisingly good on the Blackberry!

Tips & Warnings

  • You can add any digital format of songs (e.g. .wav, aiff, mp3) to your media card. Just be mindful that the transfer time will be significantly longer with uncompressed song files. If you wish to both expedite the transfer and increase the card's capacity it is best to use mp3s.
