It is estimated that 13,000 new cases of cervical cancer will be diagnosed this year. As many as 4,000 women will die of this disease. The good news is that cervical cancer is highly preventable. Here are some steps that can help you protect yourself against cervical cancer.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Visit your gynecologist regularly. You should have a pap test on an annual basis, or as frequently as your doctor recommends.
Step2
Call your doctor and report any changes such as pain or odd discharge.
Step3
Increase fruits and vegetables in your diet, especially those rich in vitamins A, C and E.
Step4
Avoid risky sexual behavior. HPV, a common STD, is one of the main causes of cervical cancer. Practice monogamy, know your partner's history, and use condoms.
Step5
Get vaccinated. If you are under 26 years old, you are eligible for the HPV vaccine, which protects against the two types of HPV that cause most instances of cervical cancer.
