Sunflower Garden

Sunflowers speak summer more than any other flowers. Because of their towering presence, even the smaller varieties, they are focal points in any garden. Collecting the seeds can be a fun way for a family to end a growing season together.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sunflowers
  • Brown paper bag
  1. Step 1

After the sunflowers start to fade in late summer to early fall, collect those flowers that the petals have fallen off.

  2. Step 2

Take the face of the flower (the front with the seeds) in one hand and gently rub with the other to loosen the sunflower seeds over a newspaper.

  3. Step 3

Funnel the seeds from the paper into a paper bag and let dry in the sun, in a dry place.

Tips & Warnings
  • The next year, sow your own seeds in the spring to start the process over again.
