Things You'll Need:
- Sight post adjustment tool or a nail
-
Step 1
Clearing procedure and picture of the selector lever for the M16A2Clear the weapon, make sure there are no rounds chambered and that the magazine is removed. Rotate the selector lever to the "safe" position. Many people do not but is a very good practice as far as firearms safety is concerned.
-
Step 2
Sight post assembly. The post is in the center with the post lock just behind it. Once the lock is depressed the post is free to turn.Once the weapon is safe determine according to the shot cluster (where your rounds hit) whether you need to adjust the sight post up or down. If you are aiming for center mass with each round and the shot cluster is around the head then you need to adjust it down. Adjust the sight up if your cluster is lower than your aim mark.

Step 3
Here is a picture of a sight post tool. They are not very expensive but are very handy to have.Use the sight post tool to adjust the post. If a tool is not available you can use a nail by pushing the nail down on the sight post lock and turning the post with the point end of the nail by pushing the sight post notch to either side in accordance with the need to go up or down.

Step 4
This is the actual post that sits in the assembly. They are easy to bend so caution is advised.Once you adjust the post reload and fire. Check the shot cluster again, if available use the markings on a grouping target to gauge the adjustments needed. Readjust as needed. Take care to notice if the sight post is bent some times it is visible but sometimes it is bent slightly and hard to see.
