Wearing more than one shade of eye shadow can dramatically emphasize eyes and bring out the beautiful facets of your eye color. However, applied inappropriately, multiple shades of eye shadow can begin to look like clown makeup and actually draw attention away from your eyes. In this article, we will discuss how to apply multiple shades of eye shadow.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 light eyeshadow
  • 1 medium eye shadow
  • 1 dark eye shadow
  • 3 eyeshadow applicators
  • Soft washcloth
  • Mild soap

How to Apply Multiple Shades of Eye Shadow

  1. Step 1
Use a gentle, moisturizing soap to clean your face before applying makeup. Apply eyeshadow after foundation and just before mascara and eyeliner.

Wash your face. Eye shadow holds best without smearing if it is applied to clean skin. Moisten the washcloth and gently wash your face, paying special attention to the delicate area around the eye.

  2. Step 2

Line up the eye shadows. When applying makeup, it is best to have a "game plan" so that you do not get carried away and put on too much. Line up the eye shadows from left to right from lightest to darkest.

  3. Step 3

Apply the lightest eye shadow to your entire eyelid. If the skin in your eye area is blotchy or uneven, you can go slightly above the eyelid toward the eyebrow to even out the area.

  4. Step 4

Apply the next-lightest shade to the lower area of your eyelid. Stroke the color on right above your eyelashes. This will make your eyes appear larger and more dramatic.

  5. Step 5
The more you exaggerate these instructions, the more dramatic your eye makeup will be.

Stroke the darkest color onto the outer half of the lower portion of your eyelid. Begin slightly to the outside of your pupil and brush lightly outward toward the end of your eyebrow. For a more dramatic, cat-eye look, actually sweep the brush all the way to the very end of your eyebrow. Depending on how dramatic the colors and your application are, you can wear this look to the office or out on the town.
