Inspect the house. Look at all the exteriors for any little holes and air leaks, especially around the windows. If they exist, use the caulk and caulk gun to seal them. Be sure not to use any caulk around exhaust pipes or anything that generates heat. If need be, replace or install any weather stripping around doors and windows.

Wrap up the water heater. The less gas needed to heat your water, the better. Buy a water heater blanket for the water heater. By insulating the heater, less gas is spent getting and keeping water hot.

Use the dishwasher or clothes washer at full capacity. Pre-soak dishes in the sink to keep from having them run through a cycle more than once.

Cook at least two heat and eat meals a week. Cooking meals in a microwave utilizes 90% less energy. Cook two meals weekly that make for excellent re-heat leftovers.

Replace all filters regularly. Dirty filters make an appliance work twice. Change them out at least once a month or by manufacturers' recommendations.
