Things You'll Need:
- RED VELVET CAKE
- 1/2 cups shortening
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 ounces of red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups cake flour - shifted
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons cocoa
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- CREAM CHEESE FROSTING
- 1 8oz package cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 stick butter
- 1 box confectioner's sugar - sifted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour 2 (9) inch cake pans.

In a large bowl, beat shortening with electric mixer while gradually adding sugar. Beat until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time blending after each egg. Set aside.

In another large bowl, mix flour, salt, and cocoa. Set aside.

In a small bowl, combine buttermilk, vinegar, and baking soda. Set aside. Note that mixture will bubble.

Retrieve the bowl with the shortening mixture. Alternate adding the flour mixture and the buttermilk mixture to the shortening mixture. Begin and end with the flour mixture. Beat on low after each addition. Once all combined, beat on medium for 2 minutes. Pour in greased pans.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. Cool completely before adding Cream Cheese Frosting.

Prepare Cream Cheese Frosting.
Beat all ingredients together until creamy. -
Step 8
Once cake has cooled, frost layers.
