How to Use a Camera Flash Set

  1. Step 1

Make sure the flash is mounted properly on the camera before taking any pictures.

  2. Step 2

Point the flash at a 45 degree or 60 degree angle to prevent shadowing on the subject.

  3. Step 3

Use the bounce card that's included with the flash set to deflect light. This will prevent shadows from appearing, but allow for subtle light to surround the subject.

  4. Step 4

Attach the bounce card to the flash using tape. Some cameras include a plastic strip that's already attached to the flash.

  5. Step 5

Take a photo, then view the image to see if there was enough light used or if it needs adjustments. Depending on the type of light that's available, increasing or decreasing the angle may be necessary to change the lighting in the picture.
