How to Make Money Selling Items on Craigslist

Selling on Craigslist appeals specifically to people who have two things in common. Who 1) need some extra cash and 2) have things lying around their house they dont't use. Craigslist is optimal for this population. It is easy to post listings, execute the transation and has no mailing/shipping, etc. I will show you these tips to quickly and easily sell clutter on Craigslist.

Things You’ll Need:

• Internet Access
• Digital Camera

1. Look through your house, garage and closet to find items that you no longer use or can do without.
2. Take pictures of each individual item with your digital camera. ***Make sure you have a lot of lighting and a an appealing background. ***For certain objects you will want to take 3-4 pictures at different angles.
3. Go to http://www.craigslist.org. On the left side of the page you will see different cities listed. Click on the closest city/area to you. If it is not listed click "more" at the bottom of the column labeled "US cities" (or whichever applies)
4. Under the "for sale" section, click whatever category your first item is in..... this may include bikes, boats, books, business, etc.
5. Click on the hyperlink which says "post" on the upper right hand corner. You will then select your category again and which area of the city you are in.
6. Next you create your posting!! *****Choose a title which is very specific and also appealing. ex: "Beautiful Oak Rocking Chair"
7. Next you will choose a price you think is fair. *****If you are unsure what price to list, you may want to look at ebay to see how much similar items are going for.
8. In the "Posting Description" include all relevant information including exact measurements, condition and age of the item and possible uses for the item. Also make sure you list a preferred method of contact.
9. Next you will fill out your e-mail and choose whether you want to reveal it to the public or have the public view it as a craigslist email (for privacy reasons I recommend always using the craigslist email).
10. Add your picture by clicking "add/edit images" and then "browse."
11. The last step in posting your listing on Craigslist is to confirm your post via email.
12. Congratulations! Now continue with all other items you are willing to sell and enjoy your extra cash and tidier house!!

Tips & Warnings

• If you are selling something small, you may want to meet your person at a public space to do the exchange such as a Starbucks.
• If your item is not selling, you may need to lower the price.
• You can resubmit your listing every 7 days!
• Craigslist is on the INTERNET!! So, there are good people and bad people using the site. I have never personally had a negative interaction and I believe they are rare, but they have happened and you should def. be aware and take necessary precautions.
