A gainer has more use for fun than competition. This dive presents the same challenge each time it’s performed. It’s hard to straighten into a seamless water entry after doing a gainer on a low board. From a high–dive, a gainer has time to exhaust its forward momentum into a downward fall. It’s fun and challenging to kick out of a gainer from any diving board.

How to Kick Out of a Gainer

  1. Step 1

Bound forward.Take a running leap to the end of the board with your feet slightly forward and your arms at your side. Instead of trying to bounce upward from the board, take a stuttered skip and let your forward momentum carry you outward.

  2. Step 2

Lead motion with the arms.Bend back slightly from the waist while throwing your arms up over your head, as you fly forward.

  3. Step 3

Bring the feet up.Straighten your back to help pull your feet up over your head. A full gainer is a back–flip that’s done in a forward direction. Continue to pull your knees forward from the waist until you are rotating enough to flip completely.

  4. Step 4

Make it a half gainer.Rotate around half as much as in step 3. Do not pull your knees forward, rather keep your back slightly bent backward. Keep your arms out over your head to lead into a dive.
