How to Clean a Beach
Beaches can get pretty dirty during the off season when no one is using them. All kinds of unsavory items can wash up on the shore and make the beach not only unattractive but just plain unsafe to use. Of course the optimal way to clean a beach is with a huge motorized beach comber, but most small communities won't have that. Put on gloves. Everyone who is cleaning up the beach should put on heavy work gloves. You may be picking up glass, needles, or other sharp objects. Some of the things you will be picking up may be rotten. Protect everyone's hands with a good pair of gloves.

Section off the beach. Divide the beach into sections by drawing lines in the sand. This will help you to assign areas for people to work on as well as help keep track of what has been cleaned and what is still left to be done.

Pick up all surface trash and debris. Put broken glass and sharp objects into cardboard boxes. Place all other trash and debris into heavy garbage bags.

Rake up the sand. You will find that there is debris, glass, and garbage hiding under the sand. Rake up at least 6 inches of the sand and sift through it looking for anything that shouldn't be there. You might even want to use a shovel if the sand is wet or hard to rake.

Smooth out the sand. After you have cleaned away all of the debris, rake the sand smooth so it looks inviting and ready to be enjoyed.
