Measure the length of the object. For example, a box may measure 10 inches long.

Measure the width of the object. The same box may be 10 inches wide.

Measure the depth, or height, of the object. In this example the depth will be 10 inches.

Insert the measurements into the formula.

Multiply the length (L) times the width (W) times the height (H). The formula looks like this: LxWxH For this example, to calculate the volume of the object the formula would be 10 x 10 x 10 = 1,000 cubic inches.
Tips & Warnings
Always remember the unit of measure is in cubic inches, feet, meters, and so forth.
This formula is for square or rectangular objects.
