Preparing for Overnight Guests in Summer
Step1
Prepare your guest room, porch or another quiet place in your home for out of town guests. Make sure there is one or two beds, a small dresser and some closet space for your overnight house guests.
Step2
Wash all pillows, blankets, curtains, sleeping bags and linens so they are ready for use. Store them in a closet or plastic storage container in another area of your home so they are handy and easy to locate when the time comes.
Step3
Set up a bathroom schedule if you only have one bathroom. Perhaps you can shower at night so your guests are free to shower in the morning when they awake.
Step4
Dust and vacuum your home so your guests will not be subjected to dust and mold allergies as much.
Step5
Stock your refrigerator and kitchen with a variety of food and beverages. Investigate ahead of time what types of foods your guests like so you can plan meals and grocery shop.
Step6
Take an inventory of your home and find out if any damaged or older items need to be replaced before your guests arrive.
Preparing Your Home for Daily Life in Summer
Step1
Remove all storm windows and replace with screens. While the windows are being replaced, you can take that time to wash and clean them. Store storm windows in a safe, out of the way place where they will not be broken.
Step2
Open up room(s) you do not normally use or heat in the winter. Air out all bedding and the room itself by opening windows.
Step3
Wash and safely store all of your Winter items including hats, gloves, bedding, clothing and shoes. This will make room in your drawers and closets for your summer wardrobe, sheets, blankets and accessories.
Step4
Locate and put out all of your summer cosmetics such as bug spray and insect repellent. Store these in a place where you can grab them in a hurry if you need to.
Step5
Inspect your summer clothing and give away items that no longer fit and replace those that are worn or damaged.
Step6
Set up your patio or back yard area with an outdoor fireplace (optional), grill, table, chairs, bird feeders and any other items. Make sure you have grilling supplies so you are ready when the time comes.
Step7
Check over the kids' swings and play items to make sure they are still functional, safe and operational.
Step8
Turn off your furnace and turn any switches (if applicable) over to air conditioner. Uncover your air conditioner if needed. Have the air conditioner inspected yearly for proper operation.
Step9
Give your lawnmower a mini-tuneup and test for proper operation.
