Ruffles are great for fashion and balancing imperfect body shapes. Ruffles can dress up an outfit or be added to change an existing outfit. However, there are some rules you need to know. Follow these easy steps to wear ruffles.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Realize that ruffles add fullness to an area. If you have an area you want to seem smaller, you usually don’t want to add ruffles there.

  2. Step 2

Add ruffles to the bust to make it seem fuller. Add them to the shoulders to help them look broader and balance out wide hips.

  3. Step 3

Wear ruffles on the hips if they’re fairly narrow and you have long, slim legs. If your hips aren’t so slim, you may be able to get away with wearing a skirt with ruffles if they are long and draping.

  4. Step 4

Note that ruffles can be worn on shoes and scarves. The size and shape of ruffles in these areas determine if you can wear them. If you have a large bust, you may be able to wear a scarf with ruffles if it’s long, narrow and the ruffles are draping. If you have large feet, ruffles on shoes are a no-no.

  5. Step 5

Understand it’s possible to wear small ruffles on a large bust if they’re worn vertically. A line of small ruffles running down the side of your chest can chop your chest in two, making it seem smaller.

  6. Step 6

Notice that ruffles can also be worn on handbags. These are safe for all body types to wear since handbags usually aren’t worn on the body.
