Using the Business Card Design in Adobe Photoshop

  1. Step 1

Download a pre-formatted business card template. When prompted, press the “Run” or “Open” key on your keyboard. At this point, you may either open an existing image or generate a new one.

  2. Step 2

Make sure your guidelines or “cropping” are well within the image range. You may set these ranges by creating a “Custom Crop selection.” This just tells the computer where you want your lines to be.

  3. Step 3

Set your background. This can be either grayscale or color and it is also referred to as your “color mode” or “resolution.” One of your own pictures or images can be brought into the frame by clicking “open” and finding the proper location.

  4. Step 4

Generate your image by using layers. All this means is your business card will end up with a bunch of different images married together. It is commonly referred to as a “layer palette.” Think of a TV screen--you have the background, foreground and so forth. They are comprised of various images, but appear as a single frame. If you do not like what you have created, you can always go backward step by step and start again. Saving each layer as you go might help.

  5. Step 5

Be sure to preview your settings before saving. Also, it might be a good idea to save your completed as a “tagged image file format.” You can always change to bit or jpeg later.

Tips & Warnings
  • Study a bit about fonts, images and weighted paper before creating your business cards on your own.
  • Companies also often have stock images employees are allowed to use. Ask your HR.
