how to deal with a cat that likes to bite.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • patience!
  • consistansy
Step1
i love my cat Sebastian. he is a year old cat and he likes to bite here and there for no apparent reason. he doesn't bite me as much because i am the hand that feeds him, but he likes to bite my husband and others as well.
i learned first off that when he bites, push him away from you so he knows he did something you don't like.
he loves to eat yogurt with my hubby every morning, but if he bites or nips or scratches beforehand, he gets no yogurt!
Step2
cats usually bite for attention, so of course you don't want to give it to him that way. set him down away from you and say NO! very loudly.
Step3
when my cat starts gearing up to bite my finger, i slowly put my finger by his nose, then he will smell it and often lick me and not bite at all when i come toward him very gently. i use this tactic quite often.

Tips & Warnings

  • there are bites called love bites that do not hurt, they are geltle nibbles on the surface of your skin that is done affectionately. my gat does this on occasion and i don't discipline him for showing me love!
  • when you get to know your cat well enough you will know when hes a bit aggitated and ready to bite so you can back off before he does. rogh housing with a cat is not recommeneded because they are not like dogs.
