You'll get to know a lot about the person so you'll have to advantage of knowing if your personalities are compatible. Watch out for relying too much on nonverbal communication, however! Spend as much of your time as possible talking on the phone instead of sending emails. It will help establish a deeper connection with one another.

2. You'll always want to let the other person know that you're thinking of them, even though you're far away. Gifts are a perfect way to show you care. If you are a guy, sending flowers, stuffed animals, chocolates, or little items that remind you of your lady will be sure to touch her heart. For women, you can send movies, books, candy, or any item that is related to a hobby of his. Cards are a great idea for either gender to send. They're cheap yet the right one can speak volumes.

3. Even if you have great communication, no relationship is truly a relationship without going on dates. In a long distance relationship this is extremely hard. If you live in different countries this can seem impossible. If you can, try to make it a point to go on a date once every month or two. You can meet halfway instead of one person driving the entire distance or stay for the weekend with the other. If this is not possible, try to save up to come in for special occasions. 4. Above all else, make sure that you truly wish to be in a relationship with someone who doesn't live close. It's not fair to keep the other person hoping when you don't plan on getting serious, unless they are aware of it. If your love is strong, you can make a relationship work if you want to.
