Step1
Decide how many people you want to invite. Keep it to around 10 people unless you have a considerable amount of money and time to spend. Even if you invite 10 people you can figure that some will bring extra people and, of course, some will not show. You would think this would balance out, but if you invite 10 people, plan on 15 showing up.
Step2
Gather the parent names and addresses of everyone you will be inviting; it is easier to mail invitations than it is to send invitations to school with your children. It is important to know that the invitations actually made it to the kids' parents.
Step3
Make up the invitations. Be sure to include the time, date, and address for the party. Make the invitations fun but simple, you might even have your child hand write the information on the invitations.
Step4
Decide what kind of decorations you would like to use for the party. Purchase them beforehand to make decorating on the day of the party easier. Consider staple colors for boys or girls such as green, blue, pink and red. You may also want to decorate using a theme for the entire party; most themed party supplies can be found at party supply stores. Some streamers to decorate the ceiling and walls along with plenty of balloons and decorated plates should do the trick. Also, don't forget the party hats and blowers!
Step5
Splurge on some party favors and prizes for the games. From the party supply store, you should be able to create a small party favor bag for everyone. Try to score some cute prizes you can give away to winners of the party games you play. If you're worried about leaving some children out, simply grab enough small prizes for all the kids and then find a way to make them all winners at the party! You can give prizes away to those who help clean up without being asked, who are helpful at the party and for numerous other creative reasons.
Step6
Plan the food. You are going to need enough cake for everyone to have a piece and, at least, a couple gallons of ice cream as well. In addition, you might want to have chips and dip, salsa, or perhaps some other kind of appetizers. Anything that is easy to eat and does not need utensils should work. If you want, you can also get hot dogs or burgers, but for a last day of school party, it’s not really needed.
Step7
Party activities are essential for children's parties, so they cannot be forgotten. Pin the tail on the donkey never gets old and is affordable at any party supply store. Other options are usually available too, so don't plan all the activities before you get to the store. Some home made activities can be just as fun, so consider these options: 1. Play the memory game! Grab a tray or something that will work as a tray and put 6 different things on it. These things can include bandaids, batteries, remote controls, glasses, pens, pencils or any other household item that fits on the tray. You would then have the children sit in a circle while you bring the tray around for them to study. Once all the kids have had a chance to take a look, take the tray away and take 2 things from the tray before taking it back out to the kids. Have the kids write down what they think is missing from the tray, and the winner gets a prize! This can be done in 1 round or 5 if you like, so it's a fun way to spend as much or as little time as you like. 2. Play the blindfold game! Put a bunch of cotton balls in a big salad bowl, grab the biggest spoon you can find in the house, and find a handkerchief to use as a blindfold. Each child takes turns in front of the bowl as they are blindfolded, and using only one hand they must try to spoon out as many cotton balls as they can. The child who takes the most cotton balls out while blindfolded gets a prize!3. Go bobbing for apples! This game is a classic that never goes out of style. All you need is a big container, some water and a few apples. The rules and games you play can be custom made, or bobbing for apples can simply be the object.
Step8
If you have done most of your food preparation and if you have put up your decorations the day before, then the day of the party will be easy. All you have to do is set up the serving table, cook any last minute food preparations, and assemble the activity supplies.
Step9
Throw the party! This is the fun part. Now, you can relax and celebrate the last day of school because you have been prepared for a fun party and everything is already taken care of. Sit back, relax and enjoy yourself. Your graduates will appreciate your efforts and everyone will have fun. That is why you are throwing the party in the first place.
