Things You'll Need:
- WD-40
- Hammer
- New hinges
- Screwdriver
-
Step 1
Spray the hinges with a small amount of WD-40 if the doors swing slowly or if they don’t swing at all. This small amount of lubrication is often enough to dissolve any rust that’s accumulated and make the door work properly.
-
Step 2
Remove the hinge pins holding the hinges in place by tapping on the underside lightly with a hammer. Bend the pins slightly by hitting them with a hammer and reinsert them back into the hinge. If your door is swinging too quickly this will help it swing like it’s supposed to.
-
Step 3
Replace the hinges on the swinging door by removing the hinge pins and unscrewing the hinges from the door. You may find it easier to install the new hinges by using an electric screwdriver. If your doors are older, this may be the best option for you.
-
Step 4
Place a small piece of cardboard about the size of your finger underneath the hinge in between the area where the door meets the frame. This quick fix solution will help if your doors are swinging faster than they should.
