You have officially crossed the line between moderate fan of Star Trek to official Trekker or Trekkie. Regardless of whether you want to beat your friends the next time you play Star Trek Monopoly or want to impress at the next Con convention, you need a great reference library. Building your Star Trek reference library will be easy and fun.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Notepad
  • Time
  • A place to display your new reference library.
Step1
Decide how much you would like to spend on your library. With the large amount of books available on Star Trek, you could easy spend way more than anticipated. A budget will help make sure that you can still afford to pay rent next week.
Step2
Start with the basics. Some of the basics you will want in your Star Trek reference library are "The Ultimate Unauthorized Star Trek Quiz Book" by Robert Bly, "The Star Trek Encyclopedia: A Reference Guide to the Future" by Michael Okuda and Denise Okuda, and "The Completely Useless Star Trek Encyclopedia" by Chris Howarth.
Step3
Branch out. Depending on the series you like best, buy some additional books to help round out your collections. There are websites dedicated to individual series.
Step4
Remember Fan Fiction. "Star Trek: The New Voyages" would be a great addition to your reference library.
Step5
Purchase DVD’s. Your personal library is not limited to just books. The best addition to your collection will be the actual DVDs. This way you can re-watch your movies or skip to your favorite parts.
Step6
Add comics to your collection. Often overlooked Gold Key Star Trek comics 1967 to 1979 or DC Comics from 1984 to 1996 add a unique touch to your reference library.
Step7
Personalize it. If you like individual actors make sure to include their memoirs such as William Shatner's "Star Trek Memories." It is always interesting to hear about what went on behind the scenes. "Inside Trek" is one of the better tell all books. Another great addition would be "Star Fleet Technical Manual" by Franz Joseph.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep a notepad to jot down books you want to add to your reference library. Star Trek conventions are a great way to hear about recently published books.
  • If you can afford it, invest in a couple collectible pieces such as rare books that will gain value along with enriching your reference library.
  • You may want to start with one series of Star Trek. Once completed you can move to the next series.
