  1. How to Collect TV Sitcoms Without Buying DVDs

    • 1

When your favorite television show comes on weekly (or daily), record every episode on your DVR player or VCR. (Try to be present and watch the entire episode to pause through commercials. With enough episodes, it will seem like you have the DVD set, and DVD sets tend to come out a minimum of a year later.)

    • 2

Check your TV Guide for marathon episodes of your favorite shows, and record all of the episodes on your DVR player or VCR. (Note: Marathon episodes tend to cut television shows in awkward spots and repeat the same commercials. Press pause when this happens so the episodes will segue better between commercial breakers.)

    • 3

Search for television episodes on YouTube, and set up a Word document with links to as many as you can find. (Note: YouTube links can be deleted by the user at any point and time. If you find a link that is missing, consider contacting the user who uploaded it to see if you can purchase that particular episode. It may be cheaper than buying the full DVD.)

    • 4

Research the parent company of the show or check to see if your favorite sitcom has a website where you can watch episodes. (Note: After the Writer's Strike when actors and actresses were given income for Internet viewers watching episodes online, more companies explore the idea of setting up shows as soon as they air.)
