    Instructions

      • 1

Always put forth your best effort, even if the assignment rubs you the wrong way or is beneath you. You are being constantly critiqued, whether you realize or not, so treat every assignment with the same care and detail. The consistency you will demonstrate is worth it's weight in gold.

Always be a consistent worker. Nothing grates on a boss more than a chronically late or absent worker. If you are not sick and are tempted to call in sick, don't do it. If you are constantly late, wake up earlier, leave earlier. You should never take advantage of your employer. They are doing you a favor, and you are doing them a favor in return. Live up to you end of the bargain. This is pretty basic stuff, but it's considered fundamental for a reason.

      • 3

Always put forth a go-getter attitude. No one wants a lazy or perceived to be lazy employee. If you tell your boss that you can do it every time, and follow through with that promise, you not only gain their trust, but also their respect.

      • 4

Always try your best to follow procedure. Bosses tend to get cranky when an employee develops an insubordinate attitude. I've seen people get fired for this sort of nonsense, so don't do it.

      • 5

Always be an insightful employee. Always go above and beyond your job description. It is assumed that an employee will try to exceed expectations. Bosses love it when someone actually exceeds those set expectations. This might please them more than anything else.

      • 6

Always reach above your job description. You are hired to do one thing; however, if you take on more than is asked, you will always feel secure and will gain leverage with the employer. Employers are not looking for people who fit the mold, but people who create their own mold, niche if you will. It's extremely important not to place too much value on simple stuff like attendance and tardiness. Employers are looking for people who can do much more than that.

      • 7

Always work at work. People who mess around all day are not enviable; they are irritating and will never go very far. Many places of work are waiting for someone to come and knock their socks off. Just do it!

    Tips & Warnings

    • Being a good employee is not being a suck up. Suck ups are not good employees; they are just being used.

    • Sometimes your boss is a cruel individual. I advise playing the game and looking for a new job at the same time.
