Wall mold is dreadful stuff - it smells bad, it is a health hazard and it can jump off the wall and onto clothes, bags, shoes and anything else stored in proximity. With a little determination and elbow grease, you can send it packing.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • 6 drops clove oil
  • 1 bucket
  • Sponge or cotton cloth
Step1
Fill the bucket halfway with warm water. Add the drops of clove oil to the water and stir.
Step2
Dip a sponge or cloth into the clove oil and water mix and wring out over the bucket.
Step3
Rub well over the moldy area of the wall. In addition, rub to the sides where you cannot see any mold, as a preventive measure.
Step4
Be patient. Some of the mold will come off immediately. Some of it may still be evident but the clove oil is powerful and will continue to kill the mold spores over the coming days.
Step5
Dust off the mold a few days later when the wall is dry and the mold appears dusty.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wear gloves when doing this. If you are easily affected by mold, also wear a mask to prevent inhalation of mold.
  • Clove oil is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. People also use it on warts and to kill parasites. Sometimes it can be found in anti-mosquito preparations, so if you're lucky, you may be getting an insect removal as well!
  • Read the contra-indications for clove oil in case of allergy or other issues. Ask at your local health food store or natural therapist if there is no information accompanying your bottle. It is generally a safe oil to use but the responsibility is yours to check that it works for you.
  • Do not get clove oil anywhere near fish; it can kill them.
