There are a variety of ways to make a traditional cucumber sandwich, but the most popular is the English way—where the cucumber sandwich originated from. These steps will show you how to easily make an open faced cucumber sandwich.

Things You'll Need:

  • English cucumber
  • Wine vinegar
  • Soft butter
  • Freshly ground pepper
  • Basil leaves
  • Sliced bread of choice
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Plate
  • Glass bowl

    How to Make an Open Faced Cucumber Sandwich

  1. Step 1

    Buy the ingredients. Any grocery store will have the ingredients that you need.

  2. Step 2

    Slice the cucumbers and marinate. Use a cutting board and slice a cucumber into thin slices. Lay the cucumber slices in a glass dish and pour a few ounces of wine vinegar over them. Allow the cucumber slices to marinate in the wine vinegar for at least ten minutes.

  3. Step 3

    Spread butter on the bread. Spread a thin layer of soft butter on the slice of bread.

  4. Step 4

    Apply the cucumbers and seasoning. Lay out the desired number of cucumber slices on the bread. Garnish with freshly ground pepper and desired amount of basil leaves.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use regular cucumbers, but they are seedier and have more water than English cucumbers.
  • This meal does not contain much nutritional value and should be served as a snack.
