Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plates
  • Cutlery
  • Napkins (cloth or paper)
  • Water glasses and wine glasses
  • Kiddush Cup
  • Candlesticks
  • Challah Board and Challah Cover
  • Flowers (optional)
  • Tablecloth (optional)

    Setting a Table for Shabbat

  1. Step 1

Clear everything off of your dining table and start with a clean, clear table.

  2. Step 2

Decide whether you want to use a simple tablecloth or placemats.

  3. Step 3

Set your table with plates, water glasses, wine glasses, forks, knives, spoons and napkins. Paper napkins will work well but cloth napkins make the table just a little more special for Shabbat.

  4. Step 4

Set out your Challah board with a beautiful Challah cover.

  5. Step 5

Set out your Shabbat candlesticks and Kiddush cup.

  6. Step 6

If you'd like, put fresh flowers in a vase in the middle of the table or have your children make a special Shabbat centerpiece that you use only on Shabbat.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have a limited amount of time on Friday afternoon, consider setting your dinner table on Thursday night or Friday morning.
