    Drawing a Cat

  1. Step 1

Grab a paper or something else to draw on. A regular or soft lead pencil usually works best.

  2. Step 2

Use very light pencil strokes in the first stages of your drawing. This will allow you to erase or alter the shape as you go along.

  3. Step 3

Start by creating a long vertical oval or ovals if you’re drawing more than one cat. This is the main part of the cat’s body and also its chest.

  4. Step 4

Draw another smaller, slightly horizontal oval on top of the bottom oval. This is the head.

  5. Step 5

Create a very light horizontal and vertical line through the approximate center of the head with a ruler. This will keep the facial features from being lopsided.

  6. Step 6

Sketch another vertical oval, somewhat larger than the head, attached to the lower right side of the chest oval. This is its left leg.

  7. Step 7

Place a smaller, sausage-like horizontal oval at the bottom of the left leg. This is its foot.

  8. Step 8

Decide how you want the cat’s tail to be—laying flat or up in the air. Draw it according to your preference.

  9. Step 9

Fill in the facial features using your ruled lines as guides. Sketch some ears. Sketch or color in details such as whiskers or fur.
