Do you despise tugging on cords to raise and lower your window shades? Cordless window shades are a great option if you hate struggling with tangled cords, or if you do not like the look on hanging cords. Cordless shades are also the safe choice if you have children in the house. Follow these simple steps to install your own cordless window shades.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

    Installing Cordless Window Shades

  1. Step 1

Determine if your cordless window shade will be mounted on the inside or outside of your window framing.

  2. Step 2

Read the instructions that are packaged with your shade to determine how to position the brackets for your installation.

  3. Step 3

Test if your mounting surface is level by holding your carpenters level against the mounting surface (usually the inside upper surface of the window trim or the outside surface of the upper window trim). If the mounting surface is not level, you must ensure that you install the brackets so that the shade will hang level.

  4. Step 4

Measure and mark the position for the first bracket. Refer to the instructions to ensure proper bracket placement. Hold the first bracket in place and mark the center of each screw hole with a pen.

  5. Step 5

Drill a starter hole for each screw.

  6. Step 6

Hold the bracket in place and use a screwdriver to install the bracket screws.

  7. Step 7

Repeat steps four through six for each remaining bracket. Depending on the length of your shade, you could have two to four brackets to install.

  8. Step 8

Slide the shade into the brackets as indicated in the instructions.
