Road trips are a great way to get to know friends and family better and a fun way to enjoy the journey to your main destination. In this article, I'll give you tips on preparing for your road trip a whole lot easier.

Things You'll Need:

  • The desire to take a road trip
  1. Step 1

First, it's very useful to plan out your route ahead of time using an online map service such as Google Maps. This will give you a better idea of distance and possible stops along the way. It won't hurt to have a paper map as well in case you run into construction or other unexpected situations.

  2. Step 2

Many time you'll know of places you'll want to stop at along the way to the main destination. It's helpful to learn a little about each place so you'll know the costs, opening times, etc. You can easily do research on this online as well. An example of this that helped my husband and I was learning that tickets to go up in the Washington Monument are given out at 8 A.M. each morning, not throughout the day. If we hadn't looked that up, we may not have been able to go up in it.

  3. Step 3

If you're renting a car, take the time to compare rates ahead of time. The same goes for hotels. It is amazing the cost difference between similar cars and hotels even within the same area. Doing a few minutes of work on this could put more money back in your pocket for the trip compared to just selecting a rental company or hotel on impulse.

  4. Step 4

Buy your food, snacks, and drinks locally and keep them in a cooler. This will save you some money and allow you to make better time to get to where you'd like to stop.

  5. Step 5

I've included some other links below that I think would be helpful. The most important step on this is to have fun and enjoy your trip!

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't forget your camera and extra batteries. It's also worth having extra storage cards if your camera takes them.
