How to Pray in the Spirit

  1. Step 1

Praying in the Spirit requires that you have the Holy Spirit living inside of you. Because of man's sinfulness, we are unable to have communion with our Holy and perfect God. For this reason, God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross and bear the penalty of our sins. In the Bible, Romans 10:9 states "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Salvation requires more than just head knowledge, it is a life-altering belief. We must admit our sin and acknowledge Jesus as our Savior.

  2. Step 2

Accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. He will forgive your sins and become a mediator between you and God. When you receive Christ as your Savior, you will receive the Holy Spirit, which was promised to us by Jesus when He predicted is death on the cross. In the book of John, in the Bible, it states: "If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you."

  3. Step 3

Pray. Once you have received Jesus as your Savior, you will be able to pray in the Spirit.
