Seven layer salad is always a make-ahead dish. Chilling the layered vegetables and mayo-based dressing lets the flavors meld and stay crisp. Use a glass bowl to show off the color of this layered veggie dish. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Glass bowl
  • 1 head of iceberg lettuce, chopped
  • 1 c. celery, chopped
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 1 onion, sliced thin
  • 1 16-ounce package of frozen peas
  • 2 c. mayonnaise or Miracle Whip
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shredded cheddar cheese
  • 8 slices cooked bacon, crumbled

Instructions

    • 1

      In a glass serving bowl layer the vegetables in the following order:
      lettuce
      celery
      green pepper
      onion
      frozen peas

    • 2

      Whip together the mayo and sugar. Spread over the pea layer.

    • 3

      Sprinkle with cheddar and bacon.

    • 4

      Poke holes in top layer with a fork. Cover and refrigerate for 24 hours before serving.

Tips & Warnings

  • Refrigerate all leftovers.

  • Mix up the variety by using yellow or orange bell peppers, and green onions or chives.
