Step 1
Start with people you already know before reaching out to the general public. Tell any of your friends who have dogs that you are available to dog sit. You will be surprised at how many will take you up on your offer. Having a dog stay with a friend is cheaper than a kennel and will keep your pal at ease knowing that his dog is not staying with a stranger.
-
Step 2
Advertise harder in the summer months when people travel more. Put the word out to your friends in early May, so they can book you for summer weekends away. Make sure to tell them all to spread the word to help you advertise.
-
Step 3
Dog-proof your house. Make sure there is no rat poison anywhere. Do not have an exterminator come to your house if you know a dog will be staying with you soon after.
-
Step 4
Make a website to advertise. Gather testimonials from your friends and use them as quotes on your site. Place an ad in your local paper as well.
-
Step 5
Dog sitting may not be your primary source of income, but with just a few clients, your bank account can really grow. Be patient. Word of mouth will advertise your business and soon you may find yourself dog sitting full time.
