How to Make Bird Pudding

Many people have bird feeders or baths in their yards to attract and feed a large variety of birds. Instead of treating the birds to the same old dried seeds and suet, give them a treat that they will enjoy and keep coming back for more. You can create a simple bird pudding with the whole family and watch as birds flock to come and enjoy the meal.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash out an empty yogurt container.

    • 2

Poke a small hole through the top edge of the container and thread some string through. This is what is going to hold the bird pudding when you have completed making it and the string is used to hang from a tree.

    • 3

Fill the large bowl about halfway with hot water. You do not need to heat the water, just get the water as hot as you can from the faucet and put it into the large bowl.

    • 4

Place the suet into the small bowl and place that bowl into the large bowl.

    • 5

Wait until the suet has melted and stir in an equal amount of food like bread, seeds, oats, or whatever extra bird treats you might have around.

    • 6

Pour the mixture into the yogurt container to the top. After a few minutes it will harden some but still remain soft.

    • 7

Leave a little room as the edge of the yogurt cup for the bird to sit on. You may want to trim a little off the top of the cup as well so that it is not awkward for the bird to eat the mixture.

    • 8

Go outside and find the tree that you want to hang the bird pudding on.

    • 9

Take a small step ladder out to the tree so that you can easily tie the string around the branch.

    • 10

Find a branch that is about 7-10 feet off of the ground. Tie the string around a sturdy branch and let the yogurt cup hang down 4-6 inches.

    • 11

Watch as the birds try out their new treat and see which ones like it and which ones do not.
