Good Supplies are Necessary
-
1
Purchase very good supplies. Do not go to a drug store. Instead, go to a professional beauty supply store. Be prepared to spend a lot. You will also need a carrying case, brushes, makeup remover and cotton balls. The professionals in the store will be able to help you.
-
2
Take a class in make up design. Even though you are probably naturally inclined in make up artistry, you will still need formal training. The skills you will learn are tremendously valuable, and you will also build connections for future jobs.
-
3
Find some willing friends to be your make up guinea pigs. You will be happily surprised at how willing they will be. Take photos of your subjects to build your portfolio.
-
4
Offer to work for free on a short film or photo shoots. If you know a photographer, offer to do make up on his shoots. You will build major connections with people who will hire you in the future.
-
5
Start advertising. Build a website, take out ads, ask all those people you worked on for free to spread the word. If you stick with it (and don't quit your day job yet) you will soon be able to make a living doing what you love.
