Things You'll Need:
- Indoor/outdoor waterproof caulking
- Screws
- Screw gun
-
Step 1
Ask a friend for help, especially if the window that you are installing is large and needs to be placed in an awkward spot or is on an upper floor. Windows, especially dual-pane windows, are expensive and it is better to be safe than sorry and to have to replace the window before it has been installed. Get all the equipment you will need ready and place it within easy reach.
-
Step 2
Caulk a bead of caulk around entire frame where your new window will be placed to ensure a watertight fit with no air-gaps where cold air may enter. With the help of your friend, ease the new window in place and hold it in position.
-
Step 3
Screw down securely. Screw securely into the pre-drilled holes in the actual window frame. This job must be done with the utmost care as the glass is just a fraction of an inch away from where you are drilling. Go inside the house and open, close and lock the new window to ensure a good fit. Wipe off any fingerprints or stray caulking before it dries.
-
Step 4
Install your window frame: Nail or screw the frame around your newly installed dual-pane window to finish off the job and to keep the weather out. The frame may be simple in design such as plain or painted boards mitered to fit into a square or rectangle around your window.
