Anyone who enjoys chocolate and pretzels will appreciate those chocolate covered pretzel treats. Unfortunately they tend to be expensive to buy in your local stores, so why not create your own? It is a very simple process and is fun as well. These pretzels make wonderful snacks for a special gathering, but also make wonderful seasonal gifts for a host or someone who is hard to buy for.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 pound of milk chocolate melts
  • A double boiler
  • A pound of your favorite plain pretzels
  • Two cookie sheets
  • Tin foil or parchment paper
  • A fork

Step1
Place the water in the bottom of the double boiler and get it boiling on the stove. Open the packages of chocolate melts and pretzels. Open the bag of milk chocolate melts, so they are easy to pour into the double boiler when it is time. Take a few cookie sheets and cover them with the tin foil or parchment paper and set them aside.
Step2
Watch for a nice rolling boiling of the water, add the top of the double boiler and pour in the milk chocolate melts. The chocolate melts will melt quickly and will change to a shiny color as they melt. Let them remain in the double boiler until they melt completely.
Step3
Stir the chocolate and when it is smooth, place a pretzel into the double boiler and use the fork to turn the pretzel over so all sides are covered. Use the fork to lift the chocolate covered pretzel out of the melted chocolate. Holding the fork so the handle is over the edge of the pan, and the pretzel is over the pot, gently tap the handle of the fork against the pan, knocking off some of the excess chocolate.
Step4
Gently lay the milk chocolate covered pretzels on the prepared cookie sheets and allow them to cool completely and the chocolate will return to the previous solid state leaving your pretzels in a chocolate shell. Go ahead and prepare all your pretzels as you did in step 3, and this will not take long at all.
Step5
Once the pretzels have sat to cool completely, you will need to re-dunk them to coat the other side of the pretzel. Allow them to sit as you did last time to harden up.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the chocolate ever begins to harden back up while in the double boiler, simply reheat and it will return to the liquid form.
  • If you do not have a double boiler handy, then a regular sized saucepan with a similar sized stainless steel bowl will be about the same thing.
  • Any type of pretzel is fine here to use because they are wonderful covered in the milk chocolate.
