Things You'll Need:
- Music Instrument
- 1/4 inch straight instrument cable and 1/4 to 1/8 inch adapter or
- PC or laptop microphone

Step 1
Open the Camtasia Studio software. Double-click on the Camtasia icon on the desktop or in the program file folder. When the program is opened, a welcome window will appear.

Close the welcome window and click on the downward triangle next to the Camtasia logo located at the top center of the screen. Scroll down to the Camtasia Audio Editor and click on it. A welcome window will appear asking "What do you want to do". .

Click on the circle to the left of "Create a new audio file". At the bottom of the window, click on "OK". The welcome window will dissapear and another window will appear with a toolbar that has buttons to record, play, rewind, fast forward, etc.

Step 4
If the instrument will be plugged directly into the PC or Laptop, plug the 1/4 inch instrument cable into the output jack on the instrument. Connect the other end of the cable into the 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch adapter. Insert the other end of the adapter into the microphone jack on the back of the PC or laptop. The jack should say "MIC", "Phones" or have a picture of a microphone or headphone above, below or to the side of the jack. If a PC or laptop microphone will be used instead, insert the microphone plug into the microphone jack of the PC or laptop. Place the microphone directly in front of the instrument.

Step 5
Click on the red circle to begin recording. Play the instrument and do a sample recording. Click on the blue square to stop recording. Click on the blue triangle that is pointing to the right with the blue line to the left of it to play the recording from the beginning. Adjust the volume on the instrument and the recording level on the tool bar to the desired settings to ensure proper volume while recording. To save the recording, click on "file" above the recording tool bar and scroll down to "save".
