Creating website content that is optimized with keyword-rich articles is one of the most effective ways to drive traffic to your website or your blog. Also called SEO, search engine optimization is hardly a magical process that can only be accomplished by an expert. It just takes the ability to write web content that it is likely to be picked by search engines. Here's how:

Write SEO Articles

  • Use keywords: Keywords are the key to SEO. Keywords are basically words or phrases that descriptively sum up the content of your article. These are words that people are most likely to type into a search engine when they are browsing the web for information related to your content. For example, some keywords for an article on "Vitamin D" may include: "vitamin D," "vitamin D deficiency," "vitamin D facts" and "foods with vitamin D."

  • Search engines rank content based on the frequency of keywords, as well as the relationship between the keywords in your article. As such, it is important to keep this in mind as you write, so that you place the keywords strategically within the article. Use keyword phrases rather than just keywords. For example, instead of "necklace" use the keyword "beaded necklace" or "gold necklace" based on the content of the article.

  • Optimize your headings. The first place that search engines look for keyword relevance is in the headings and subheadings of your article or web page content. A search engine optimized heading should include at least one or two of your keywords or a keyword phrase. Place the heading in a HTML heading tags to better scanning by the Search Engine.

  • Optimize the first and last paragraphs of the article. Search engines not only check the number of times a keyword is used in an article, but also evaluates where else in the article the keywords are used. Certain places rank as more important than others. One such place is in the headings, as indicated in Step 2 above. The next highest ranked position is in the first and last paragraphs of the article.

  • Keep your web content short and precise. Search Engines not only love focused content, but people also dislike long rambling articles. Ideally, your articles should range between 350 and 700 words, and keep the content focused and specific on a single subject.

  • Do not spam the search engines. While it may seem logical to repeat your keyword as a many many times as possible throughout the article – DON'T! Search Engines are not so easily taken in, and will, in fact, penalize you for "keyword spamming." Focus instead on writing informative, search engine optimized articles with well-placed keywords. Your keyword density must be less than 10% of your article.

  • Use synonyms – words that have the same meaning as your keyword. Using synonyms instead of your keywords, particularly in the mid-section of the article, not only helps avoid keyword spamming, but may also attract traffic from users who type the synonym into the search engine.
