Buying a magic wand is more than just a shopping trip. For most people who practice the Craft, it is a major stepping stone in an individual’s unique, personal path in the faith. Buying your first magic wand is a big deal, and should not be taken lightly! You have to be completely sure the one you get is the one you were meant to have. Remember, the wand chooses you, not the other way around.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • An open mind
  • A connection with your spirit guide
  • Patience
  • A trustworthy metaphysical supply source
  1. Step 1

Pray to the God(s) and Goddess(es) for guidance. Ask them to connect you with the wand you were meant to have, so that you may conduct your magick in the best way possible. You will need to have complete faith in the God(s) and Goddess(es), trusting where they lead you.

  2. Step 2

    Inviting Your Spirit Guide
Ask your spirit guide to come along with you, and help you to find your wand. Your spirit guide will know which one you are meant to have. If you have a strong connection with your guide, you will feel the urge to go to the store when the time is right. You will feel a sudden pull, like something is calling to you.

  3. Step 3

    Heeding the Signs

Do not go straight for the wand you think is the most beautiful. Instead, pass you hand slowly along all the wands available. When you start to feel a tingling sensation, pick up the wand you are closest to. This may happen for a handful of wands. Spend time simply holding each in your hand. If you feel a warming sensation, or if there’s something just “telling” you, you’ll know your wand has found you.

  4. Step 4

    Basic Wand Care Necessities

When you purchase your magick wand, you’ll need to also purchase a wand pouch or a wand case. The pouches are often made of silk or velvet. Wand cases come in many different types of wood, with any number of varying designs. Although some places may sell plastic wand cases, these are not recommended. As a faith, most Wiccans try to avoid unnatural substances such as plastic. While Wiccans still encounter these plastics and other materials in everyday life, it’s usually best to avoid them as holders for any tools of the Craft.

Tips & Warnings
  • It’s usually best to shop for your wand when your mind is free from distraction. This may mean making sure you shop alone. Distractions may prevent you from noticing subtle effects a wand may have on you. The wand that chooses you should instill powerful feelings within you. Do not, however, mistake a hair-raising sensation for that of a warming, tingling sensation.
  • Purchasing and using the wrong wand can have serious consequences. A wand that did not choose you may impact any magick you try to conduct in a way that may have negative impacts. Never let anyone else use your wand. It is often advised not to let others even touch your wand, however some feel that is an unnecessary precaution. At the very least, it is recommended that you perform a cleansing ritual after someone else touches you wand, before using it to perform magick.
