How to Turn Your Old TV into a 60s Lightshow

Many people have an old television set sitting around their home that doesn’t work right. The screen may be fuzzy, the sound may not work and the entire unit may just be taking up space. You can throw out the old television set or donate it to charity, but you can also have a lot of fun with it. Turning it into a 1960s light show is an excellent way to reuse that old set and to add fun and excitement to your next party.

Things You’ll Need:

Aluminum foil
Color television set
Toothpicks
Masking tape or electrical tape

Step1

Place a piece of aluminum foil over your television set. Use a piece that’s big enough to cover the entire screen. If your set is smaller one piece will probably be enough, but for larger sets, you may need to use two sheets or more of aluminum foil.

Step2

Decide on a design to create in the aluminum foil. The lights from the television will come through this stencil, casting shadows on the walls. You can also make a random pattern if you’d prefer.

Step3

Poke holes in the aluminum foil with a toothpick or some other small, sharp implement. You may find it helpful to do this before you put the foil on the television. Wrap the edges of aluminum foil with electrical tape or masking tape to hold it in place on the television.

Step4

Turn yon our television and turn dpwn the volume. You don’t need to have any sound coming from it, especially if you plan on having people over and/or playinging music.

Step5

Adjust the brightness, hue and color of the television to create a completely new and different effect. Since you won't be watching the television screen, you can make it as bright and colorful as you like. Turn off the lights in the room and watch as the lights from the set bounce through the foil and around the room.
