Live Like a Cat Day is a relaxing holiday inspired by cats. Stressed out by wedding plans, Kansas residents James and Kerri Thomson noticed their cat Bobo always found time to relax. The Thomsons saw inspiration for a relaxation holiday. They chose the second Saturday in January, a winter weekend day when people would be housebound and not distracted by good weather. They set up their website and contacted news media. Live Like a Cat Day is spreading like cat purrs on a warm quilt. You can celebrate in January or choose a day that works best for you.

1. Calendar your holiday. Make no appointments. Stock your favorite foods, movies or music. Be self-indulgent. Set this up as your day.
2. Lucy Avoid a schedule. Sleep late. Get up when you please. Stretch, yawn and look out the window. Or fluff up the pillow and go back to bed.
3. Take time to play with your toys. Set up nonstop movies or marathon music. Dump out that jigsaw puzzle. Pull out your knitting, model kits or word games. Dabble with hobbies. Put on your headphones and dance around the house.
4. Nap on the couch. Nod off over a book. Snore in your recliner with magazines. Snooze. Stretch. Yawn. Cuddle up under a comforter and think about cookies and cocoa. Order in pizza. Invite friends, but only the ones who play well together.
5. Act like a cat. Stretch. Meditate. Pick lint out of your toes. Prowl through the kitchen for munchies. Poke through your stuff until you find something interesting. Shed that stored-up pressure and unwind.
