Keeping the noise from getting inside your bedroom or from getting out in some cases can be beneficial to you and your neighbors. Soundproofing is an option that might suit your needs, from turning your bedroom into a studio, or if you just want to get a good nights sleep living in a noisy urban area. Removing and Replacing Drywall

Choose which way you would like to soundproof your room. There are different ways to soundproof a finished room but the major choice is going to be if you would like to remove your drywall and replace it, keep it somewhat intact and/or repair it.

Choose which side of the room you would like to open on the interior (if you chose to remove and replace the drywall) and remove the drywall. Keep in mind the amount of damage it will cause and the area in which you are working when choosing.

Pack in your insulation batting. When packing in the batting remember the thicker the batting is the more sound it will block. Although packing the batting in too tight will cause it to loose some insulation value. You may also have to cut it to make it fit to the right size. Skip to step #6.

Blow in your insulation. There are different types of insulation that may be blown on to the space left by the removed drywall. You may either hire a contractor to do this or rent a machine at your local home improvement store along with the materials of your choice. Skip to step #6.

Hang previously made soundproofing panels. Already made insulation panels can be found in home improvement stores and may also come in rolls of material as well. Be sure to refer and follow the hanging instructions of the manufacturer.

Replace your drywall. This only applies if you chose to remove and replace your drywall and you are finished soundproofing at this point.

Drill or cut a hole in the drywall near the ceiling of the bedroom that is between each of the studs. Keep in mind how big of a hole you will want to make as you will have to repair it later. If this choice does not suit you then skip to step #

Pump the space inside the walls full of expandable insulation or other types you may choose to soundproof the bedroom using a special machine. You may also rent these machines at your local home improvement store or have contractor complete it.

Repair or patch any holes made to the drywall after filling it with the soundproofing material. Some patching kits are sold to patch drywall at department stores as well as home improvement stores as well. You are finished sound proofing the room at this point.

Hang manufactured wall coverings over drywall as specified by the manufacturer as and alternative to removing your drywall at all. Although these are sold at most home improvement stores and can come in many colors, they often are more expensive but take a lot less time to install.
