How to Use an HDV Camera

HDV stands for High Definition Video and these cameras are much better than their predecessors, which explains their high price tag. A number of production companies and television shows are beginning to shoot their programs in HD and now everyone at home can do the same thing. HD cameras can shoot everything from school plays to birthday parties and anything in between. Using these cameras is fairly easy as long as you practice a little and get a feel for the camera.

Instructions

1. Set the frame rate, resolution and scan on your HD camera. These settings can be accessed by the options screen. Try a few different settings and film different things to see what settings you like the best.

2. Focus the camera the same way you would a normal camera, but remember that some settings will be slightly different. The best way to understand how your camera works is to keep practicing and see what you like the best.

3. Use more lighting than you would on a regular camera because the HD creates some darker shadows. Using more light will help you keep things looking more natural.

4. Make sure your camera is set to HD on the display because some cameras also allow you to shoot in SD. While you may not see a difference while shooting, the SD footage will look brighter and more saturated than the HD film.
