If you want to give a speech that will hold the interest of your audience, then practice is the key. Practice helps you to get your thoughts organized in your head so that delivery is spontaneous. Here are a few steps to take when practicing to give a spontaneous speech.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Topic
  • Research resources

Step1
Select the theme of your speech. Once you know your theme, build your information by expounding on a few points that supports that theme. Under each point, highlight key information that you want conveyed to the audience with clear understanding.
Step2
Plan a start and an ending. You will never get there if you do not know how to start your speech and at what point it will end. Therefore, take the time to develop an effective introduction. It is also at this time you need to focus in on how you will conclude your spontaneous speech.
Step3
Make an outline. Instead of writing out your speech word for word it is better to write out an outline. An outline is comprised of an expression of ideas you wish to convey effectively to your audience. A well planned out outline helps you to put the emphasis on these ideas during the delivery rather than only emphasizing words.
Step4
Prepare to enlarge on your information. Once you have a logical development of your speech outlined and you are comfortable delivering your ideas, now prepare for your audience. Practice your speech several times, each time imagine giving your speech in front of a different audience. This involves having different illustrations in mind that serve to help your audience appreciate how the information affects or helps each of them personally.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice.
  • Be flexible in your delivery.
  • Do not become overly confident in giving your speech as this will sometimes cause you to insert too many additional ideas.
