Pandora is a great Internet music service that acts as a radio station playing music similar to a certain band or style of music. Some people want the freedom of using Pandora without interfering with a web app. There are a handful of applications available. Unfortunately, there are only a few currently for Macs. Here's how to use Pandora without a web browser if you're using a Macintosh.

Get yourself a Pandora account at Pandora.com. This is easy enough as it's free. Once you have a Pandora account, any of the applications below will ask you for log-in details to access your Pandora listening history.

Get yourself a copy of Mozilla Prism. If you use Firefox, Prism is an application that can open up Firefox content without actually opening up the browser. This application will work with Pandora, utilizing far less memory than Firefox, if that's an issue.

More versatile than that is PandoraBoy, a Mac-only application that lets you control Pandora with Mac controls, such as the Apple remote.

The Pandora Dashboard Widget is, as you might have guessed, a dashboard widget that you can easily add to your collection of widgets. However, like some other Mac widgets, it can be pretty slow-loading, which isn't the best system for streaming music.
