Crocheting a belt is not difficult as long as you know a few basic crochet stitches and if you have a lot of yarn pieces lying around that you would like used up, this is the perfect project for you.

Things You'll Need:

    How to Crochet Belts

  1. Step 1

Chain two stitches and join them in a slip stitch, then just keep going around in a circle with single crochet. To make your circle lie flat, make sure to add a stitch each time you go around. To make the circles more colorful you can add more colors to the circle as you work each layer of stitches. Work six layers until you have a crocheted disk the size of a coaster. Do not cut the end of the yarn.

  2. Step 2

Crochet a chain of six stitches and then chain two more stitches and join them as you did in the previous action. Continue around the disk as you did in the first disk. You will now have two connected disks with a short chain between them.

  3. Step 3

Proceed to continue crocheting and connecting disks all the way around the belt. Finish by chaining a long loop to fit around one of the disks to create a closure for your belt. Get creative with the color scheme as you don't have to always use the same colors over and over again.

  4. Step 4

Make sure that your belt is long enough to fit you comfortably, particularly if you decide to wear it hanging loosely on your hips. It is important to have enough length to it to have a portion left over to dangle when the belt is being worn if that is the way you prefer to wear it.

  5. Step 5

Tuck in all the loose ends that you find in your project. This is important to keep the belt looking nice and also keeps the loose ends from snagging on everything the belt touches. Make sure that your knots are secure before you hide the ends of the yarn.

Tips & Warnings
  • Any type of yarn will do to make this type of belt but the plain, ordinary flat colors are likely to have the most impact.
  • Make sure you have enough of each color yarn to complete your project.
  • Be careful when using crochet hooks as the smallest ones can stab into skin very easily and the larger ones as well as the small ones could poke you in the eye.
