How to Clean a Cola Spark Plug

Making sure your spark plugs are clean and in good order is an important part of car maintenance. Faulty spark plugs can lead to several problems in your car's engine, and letting dirt or oil accumulate on spark plugs can lead to spark plug failure. if you're not replacing your spark plugs on a regular basis, you can clean them by hand and insert them back into the designated spot on the engine. Here's how to clean a cola spark plug and keep your car's engine in great shape.

Things You'll Need:

  • Wire brush
  • Metal cleaning solution
  • Dry cloths
  • Light gloves
  1. Step 1

    Remove the spark plugs from the socket. Make sure the car is turned off, and gently remove the cola spark plugs from the socket.

  2. Step 2

    Inspect the spark plug. Make sure the spark plugs are still in good shape and are not showing signs of being defective.

  3. Step 3

    Wipe down the spark plugs. Take the dry cloth and gently wipe down the spark plugs; this will remove any basic dirt and debris that may have accumulated on the plugs.

  4. Step 4

    Clean the spark plugs with the wire brush. The wire brush offers more extensive cleaning, and can help buff away dirt, oil and grime. Clean the plugs with a gentle rotational movement and start brushing away the excess dirt.

  5. Step 5

    Do a deep clean. Dip the wire brush in the cleaning solution, then use a rotational brushing movement to buff away the next layer of dirt, oil and remaining grime.

  6. Step 6

    Buff the spark plugs dry. Use the dry cloth to absorb any remaining cleaning solution, dirt and debris and wipe away all of the excess.

  7. Step 7

    Put the spark plugs back in their socket. When the spark plugs are completely dry, insert the spark plugs back into their socket.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a stiff wire brush for the best deep clean.
  • Wear gloves when removing the spark plugs from the engine to protect your hands.
  • Do not insert the spark plugs back into their socket if they are still wet or damp; make sure they are completely dry before putting them back into your car!
  • Get help from a mechanic if you're unsure how to remove or insert the spark plugs.
