How to do a Daoist Health Clap
It's so easy, when you're feeling under the weather, to instantly retreat to bed and vow not to move again until you feel better. Unfortunately, this can be counterproductive because, while rest has plenty of healing benefits, so does therapeutic movement. This exercise, called the Daoist health clap, takes only a few minutes and can help ward off illness by stimulating the immune system.

1
Perform the Daoist health clap immediately when you first notice that you might be getting sick. The earlier you try it, the more likely it is to be effective in warding off or decreasing the severity of an illness.
-
2
Stand up straight but relaxed. Swing your arms forward and clap your hands in front of you.
-
-
3
Swing your arms straight back behind you. This back and forth motion stimulates many parts of the immune system, especially the large number of glands located in the neck and underarm areas.
-
4
Repeat the clap in front and the swing back motion for five to ten minutes. Do this every day for as long as you feel under the weather.

Exercise: If you feel well enough, perform some other light exercise, like walking. There are additional immune supporting glands in other parts of the body, especially around the hips, that can work in conjunction with those stimulated by the clapping exercise and doing a range of gentle movement can help to engage as many of them as possible.

6
Perform the Daoist health clap for a minute or so per day, even when you aren't feeling sick. This can help to keep your immune system strong and resistant to threats that you may not even notice.

Tips & Warnings
It can be tempting to clap behind your back also, but this is not part of the traditional exercise. Just swing your arms straight back, as far as they can comfortably go.
