Trim a Fake Bushy Mustache Slowly

Whether short and thin or long and bushy, applying a fake mustache is often the best solution to create the look of a character. Even though fake mustaches vary in length and thickness, most require a trim in order to appear more natural. Trimming and shaping a mustache takes practice. The important thing to remember is to take your time and trim slowly to avoid cutting the hair too short. This is especially true if you are learning to trim a fake bushy mustache. Once you have taken too much hair off it will be difficult to fix.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ready-made beard
  • Pencil
  • Paper
  • Comb
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Determine the shape and length of the mustache. Use your pencil and paper to sketch the desired shape of the mustache. Refer to the sketch as you trim the fake mustache.

  2. Step 2

Remove any loose hairs with a comb. Lightly comb the mustache or use your fingers to pull stray hairs. Don't be alarmed if a large quantity of hair falls out. If you are working with a fake bushy mustache, you will have plenty of hair to work with.

  3. Step 3

Cut the mustache to the desired length. Lift and secure a section of hair with a comb or between your index and middle finger. Pick up and hold a pair of scissors with the other hand. Hold the scissors vertically and cut the hair slowly.

  4. Step 4

Trim the mustache. Continue to shape the beard slowly as to avoid cutting too much hair.

  5. Step 5

Thin the mustache with thinning shears. Hold the hairs at the tip of the mustache and make one firm cut with the shears. Exercise care when using thinning shears because it only take one cut to remove a large quantity of hair.
