How to get Cheap Student Broadway Tickets

  1. Step 1

Use your student ID. Your first step to getting cheap Broadway tickets as a student is to grab your student ID card. There are many benefits, beyond a degree, that being a student can get you. Cheap Broadway tickets is one of those benefits.

  2. Step 2

Decide what Broadway show you want to see. Your next step is to figure out a couple Broadway shows that you would like to see. Keep in mind that your top show may not be offering student discount tickets, so have a couple back up shows available.

  3. Step 3

Go to the actual box office for the theater earlier in the day. Ask them if they offer "rush" or "standing room only tickets" and if they do, how likely it will be that discount tickets will be offered for that night's performance. Rush tickets are only offered if the show is undersold so by checking earlier in the day, you can better decide which show you want to try to get tickets for. Of course if the show is already oversold there is no point in waiting for tickets.

  4. Step 4

Your final step is to show up to the box office about two hours before the show. Some shows will offer rush tickets up to three hours before a show, while other will not open rush ticket sales until about an hour before the show starts. Tickets will usually cost between $20 to $40 dollars for tickets that could normally sell from $60 to as much as $150. A great deal for a starving college student.

Tips & Warnings
  • A matinée show may have more rush tickets available for students. Be flexible on your show times and you will have a much better chance of getting tickets for your desired Broadway show.
