  1. How to Write College Resumes

    • 1

Do some research on job opportunities that interest you. It is easiest to prepare a resume with a specific job or career in mind. As you research qualifications needed for particular jobs, start to brainstorm how you can apply your experiences to qualify you for a given position. For instance, if you are applying for a fundraising job, you might want to highlight your experience as a fundraising chair in your fraternity or sorority.

    • 2

Decide whether you want to write a functional resume or a chronological resume. A functional resume focuses on your skills and would be optimal if you do not have a lot of experience. A chronological resume would be useful if you have had several internships, jobs, or related experience that would be of value in the job you are seeking.

    • 3

Research different style options for resumes on the Internet. The style matters little as long as your resume comes across looking professional.

    • 4

Open up your Microsoft Word application. On the top center of your resume you will want to place your name, address, and contact information. This should be larger (bold if you choose) than the rest of the text in your resume. Go down two spaces and start your resume with a left alignment. You may choose to place the titles of each section on the left margin and tab over to fill in the details. If you are preparing a chronological resume, organize your information by dates. Titles you may want to include are: objective, experience, education, special skills, honors and activities, employment, and interests. Make sure not to leave out education.

    • 5

Once you have completed filling in the details of your resume, review it for typos readability. Employers generally scan resumes so you want to make sure any pertinent information stands out. You may choose to make bold or italicize certain words.

    • 6

Review your resume one last time. Ask yourself if the information you provided is useful for the job you are seeking. Once you are satisfied, print out your resume on resume paper.

Tips & Warnings
